A new group!

I have been very down lately, and it's hard for me to feel ' inspired' enough to do anything in the art room... but...I have found a great art group that I bet will get me heading in the right direction. They meet once a month and I loved the first project I did. It was on using textures. I really liked using all the different items, changed my mind and pulled stuff off, glued more on and ended up with this. I think I should call it My Secret Garden.
Last thing to do is to seal it... do I keep it matt, or make it glossy???? HELP!
BASIC method was to use a thick substrate ( we used thick cardboard) apply first layer of texture with modeling paste and stencil and dry, glue on as much large and small items as you can, in a theme, ( try for a focal point) let glue dry, and then coat with gesso about 4 layers drying between layers. Then paint! Use spray inks, brush on acrylic paints, whatever... one color looks cool, or more, whatever you like. Dry, then seal.

A LITTLE progress...

I am fairly pleased with how the organizing is going, and the look of this corner. I was sooo happy when I remembered the metal shelf! It was even the right color! Now to paint that tray and attach to the sewing machine drawers. Should I "shabby chic" those drawers? Or leave them? Not sure.
I still have a lot to go through, now that there is quite a bit more storage, plus I will be decorating too. I want this area to be useful, organized, and pretty! Oh, and the only thing purchased recently was the red tool box trays, ($1 ea) plus my husband picked up a vintage slide storage case ($6!!) full of hardware, washers, screws, about 15 pounds of metal!! I cleaned and repaired it.... so useful!!

Before and after

I had found this small organizer a few months ago at a yard sale and was using it, but not efficiently. Since I have began Project Art Room, I decided to update and brighten it up. I want a light, more open feeling in my art room. I sanded and painted it using off white paint I had, and then mixing the blue myself. I have since distressed it and lined the drawers. I think it turned out pretty good. I'm thinking it will house my cling stamps, as well as some selected vintage papers.

PROJECT Art Room-shopping

Now that the little table is cleared off, (what a crazy day!) and the stuff is stuffed away, I am going to yard sales and thrift stores to look for unique storage! If it is a little wood hutch top, I will paint it a light color. Maybe I can find a wire grid with baskets or something. Hmmm... can't wait.

PROJECT:Art Room

I have an overflowing "art" room with barely room to create, so I'm working on one small area this month.... and even tho it is small, it's gonna be, well, hard! I'm going to be brave enough to post a pic today.... if i can figure it out.
